In December of 1998 I visited Spain for the first time.  It was then that I met a man of God named Jaume Torrado.  I knew very soon that he was either a man of vision or completely out of touch with reality.  For to believe God for revival against all odds in a land that has been barren for nearly two thousand years, and the insurmountable difficulties that lie ahead of him he would have to have had a vision from God or delusions of grandeur.

One of evidences that a man has a vision from God is its effect upon his own personal life.  In the will and purpose of God a man or woman is always conformed to their vision.  It is not the man and his message, but rather the man becomes his message.  If our vision is a thing of the flesh and a desire to build for ourselves an earthly kingdom it will always manifest in pride and corruption.  But as the ministry grows and likewise, the one with the vision and all those around him are growing in humility and Christlikeness we can be sure that the vision has come from God.

In my first visit to Spain brother Jaume was pastoring two works in the region of Girona: one in Blanes and another in Banyoles.  The two churches had around thirty to fifty people in them.  But today the church in Blanes has grown and at times has reached nearly one hundred in attendance and Banyoles is currently running over one hundred.  At the same time new churches were planted in the towns of Salt and Olot, and as this article is being written the eyes of our brethren are upon two more towns.  What were merely plans and a dream of one man in the year 1998 have begun to become a reality.

One of the greatest challenges in a nation like Spain is, how to get the attention of a people that for the most part have never been exposed to the Christianity of the Bible.  This is where the works of Christ have to come in.  Our brethren in Spain are not trying to prove the Gospel just by what they say, but they are showing the people of the region of Girona the works of Christ.

Through the ministry of the “Good Samaritan” they are reaching out in several ways.  First of all they have planted a men and women’s home, where those that our bound by drugs and alcohol can come and live and have their lives changed by the living Christ.  The testimony of the “Good Samaritan” home has been that at times even the city would call them and say, “We have a man that has been drunk for twenty-five years and we cannot help him, can you take him.”  They are testifying to the world that Christ is the answer.

This ministry is also feeding the hungry and in these times of very high immigration they are giving clothes to the poor immigrants that have come to make Spain their home.

God has raised up four missionary workers to help in this harvest of Spain.  Jorge, John, Manuel, and Gustavo.  These are four men of God called to serve under the ministry of Pastor Jaume Torrado and the Jericho Project.

Brother Gustavo (a missionary from Brazil) along with his wife, are pastoring the church in Salt which has grown to around fifty in attendance.  (Picture of church in Salt)  The church has a kitchen to feed the hungry and a storeroom of clothing for the needy.

John Castrillo and his wife Elizabeth are pastoring a newly planted cell church in the city of Olot.  He also ministers in the other churches as well, and is supported by Living Waters church.

The church in Spain has grown over nine hundred thousand in last several years.  It is beginning to rain.

We believe that the ministry of the Jericho Project is that of “pure religion undefiled” spoken of by James, and for this cause we are honored to be supporters of this great work.
